IG Network was set up in 1991 by IG Freie Theaterarbeit to help independent theatre groups in paying their social insurance contributions with grants. IG Network is administered by IG Freie Theaterarbeit and financed by the  arts department of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport. Grants by IG Network are given to independent theatre groups/ theatre societies who employ staff.
