I live in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland
Within the European Union, many regulations have been put into place to simplify cross-border working and living. However, the social security regulations of the individual EU/EEA member states and Switzerland have not been harmonised. This means that each country has its own regulations on health, pension, accident, and unemployment insurance. The individual countries’ national systems are sometimes fundamentally different from one another, both in terms of their design and the scope of the benefits they offer.
However, European Union Regulation 883/2004 provides for social security coordination, thus ensuring that the different insurance systems work together, even though they are different.
