Settlement permits

Third-country nationals holding a settlement permit can live and work in Austria. Unlike with the Red-White-Red Cards, the points system does not apply here.

Settlement permits are usually issued for the duration of your contractual activity in Austria when they are first issued, but for a maximum of one year. However, it is possible to have your settlement permit extended. If you have already been legally resident in Austria for 2 years and you extend your settlement permit for the third time, this time it is valid for a further 3 years.
